Read Agriservices was established in
1971 on the border of Witham Friary and Upton Noble in a former Nissan Hut, which had
previously served as a chicken house, by kind permission of local farmer Mr Jim May.
By the mid seventies it was apparent that new
premises were required to house the ever increasing demand as agriculture boomed in the
area. Finding a site that was suitable for the purpose, popular with local residents and
acceptable by Mendip & Taunton Council was not easy – but all criteria were
eventually met and the new premises at Bruton Lane with living accommodation was opened in
April 1982.
